Chrysler 200 A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: Where is the Expansion Valve Located and How to Replace It?
A: The expansion valve is located in the firewall. To replace it, first have the air conditioning system discharged by a technician. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the nut and separate the refrigerant lines from the expansion valve at the firewall, taping off the ports to prevent contamination. Remove the two expansion valve bolts and pull it from the evaporator in the firewall. If necessary, transfer the foam piece to the new expansion valve. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure not to reuse the old seals. Replace and lubricate them with the correct refrigerant oil before installing. Finally, have the system evacuated, leak tested, and recharged by the shop that discharged it.
