Loosen the wheel lug nuts and, if applicable, the driveaxle/hub nut. Support the outer end of the lower control arm with a floor jack. Use a back-up wrench to prevent the shock absorber stem from turning and remove the upper mounting nut. Remove the retainer and grommet. Underneath the vehicle, remove the two nuts attaching the lower end of the shock absorber to the lower control arm and pull the shock out from below. Remove the lower grommet and retainer from the stem. Apply thread locking compound to the shock absorber stud before installing the upper mounting nut and tightening the lower mounting nuts. For 4WD models with a solid front axle, remove the shock absorber upper mounting bracket. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt. Loosen the driveaxle/hub nut and wheel lug nuts on 1500 4WD models. Raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the wheel. Remove the three upper shock absorber mounting nuts and the lower shock absorber mounting nut and bolt. Remove the brake caliper and disc. Detach the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle and upper control arm, detach the upper balljoint from the steering knuckle, and detach the stabilizer link from the lower control arm. Remove the driveaxle/hub nut and pull the top of the knuckle out to remove the shock absorber/coil spring assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring all fasteners are tightened properly.

Extend the new shock absorber as far as possible and install new rubber grommets into the shock absorber eyes. Finally, install the new shock absorber by reversing the removal process and tightening the shock absorber mounting fasteners.
