To remove the accelerator cable on a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, start by removing the retainer or plug inside the vehicle and detach the cable end from the accelerator pedal shaft. Then, remove the retainer clip from the cable assembly housing at the grommet and pull the cable through the firewall. In the engine compartment, remove the retainer clip and separate the cable from the pin or stud on the throttle lever using needle-nose pliers. Detach the cable from the mounting bracket by compressing the cable-to-bracket fitting with pliers and pulling the cable through the bracket. If the vehicle has cruise control, mark the position of the retaining clip on the throttle lever before disconnecting it. Finally, remove the cable from the engine compartment. For 3.0L, 3.3L, and 3.8L V6 engines, disconnect the accelerator cable from the pedal shaft inside the vehicle and disconnect it from the firewall. In the engine compartment, pull the cable housing end fitting out of the dash panel grommet, ensuring the grommet remains in place. Remove the retainer and disconnect the accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped) from the throttle body. Use pliers to compress the end fitting tabs and separate the cable from the mounting bracket. To reinstall, follow the reverse steps of removal.
