To relieve the system fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For 2.4L four-cylinder models, disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors, detach the injector wiring harness from its mounting clips, or disconnect the main harness electrical connector and remove the harness. Disconnect the fuel delivery line quick-connect fitting and disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and carefully pull up on the fuel rail to disengage the injectors from their respective bores in the intake manifold. Remove the injector retaining clips and detach the injectors from the fuel rail. Remove the O-rings from each injector and replace them with new O-rings and a new grommet. For 3.3L/3.8L V6 models, remove the upper intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel delivery line quick-connect fitting and disconnect the fuel delivery line from the fuel rail. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors and detach the injector wiring harness mounting clips from the fuel rail. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and carefully pull up on the fuel rail to disengage the injectors from their respective bores in the intake manifold. Rotate each injector to disengage the retainer clip from the flange on the injector mounting pipe and remove it from the fuel rail. Remove the O-rings from each injector and install new O-rings. Before installing each injector into the fuel rail, install the injector retainer clip by sliding the open end into its slot in the injector. Then, push the injector into the mounting pipe until it seats. Tighten the fuel rail retaining bolts and check for leaks at the quick-connect fitting and the upper end of each injector.
