- A:To replace the camshaft reference sensor, first unplug the sensor lead at the electrical connector and loosen the retaining bolt. Remove the sensor from the cylinder head. If reinstalling the same sensor, remove the old spacer, clean the sensor face, and install a new spacer. Inspect the O-ring. For a new sensor, ensure a new paper spacer is already installed, and the O-ring is properly positioned.
