If the vehicle still runs, it's best to use up as much fuel as possible before beginning this procedure. Slowly remove the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure and then relieve the system fuel pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the vapor line from the EVAP canister and remove the EVAP canister. Put an approved gasoline container under the drain cap, unscrew the fuel tank drain cap and then drain the tank. When the tank is empty, install the drain cap. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the fuel filler neck vent hose from the fuel tank, loosen the fuel filler-neck hose clamp and disconnect the fuel filler neck hose from the fuel tank inlet pipe. Place a transmission jack or a floor jack under the fuel tank to support it. Remove the nuts that secure the fuel tank straps. Remove the EVAP canister mounting bracket from the right fuel tank mounting stud and push it aside. Carefully lower the fuel tank from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel tank strap nuts to the torque. When you're done, start the engine and check for leaks at any fuel line connectors that you disconnected.
