Q:
How to Remove a Fuel Tank from a Dodge Charger? Posted by Customer
A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain as much fuel out of the tank through the fuel filler neck tube. Use a hard nylon tube with a 30-degree cut on the end to push open the check valve in the fuel filler neck. Remove the lower cushion from the back seat. Remove the loam pad covering the access covers for the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module and the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor. Remove the access cover for the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting for the filler neck vent line in the left rear wheel well. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting for the vent line quick-connect fitting in the right rear wheel well. Disconnect the EVAP line quick-connect fitting, which is also located in the right rear wheel well. Disconnect the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting. Remove the under-body splash shields. Loosen the hose clamps for the fuel filler neck hose and disconnect the fuel filler neck pipe from the filler neck hose. Remove the exhaust pipe(s) and the driveshaft. Support the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank retaining strap bolts and remove both retaining straps. Carefully lower the fuel tank just far enough to pull the fuel tank filler neck vent line through the gap between the floorpan and the left end of the rear suspension crossmember. Pull the EVAP vent line through the gap between the floorpan and the right end of the suspension crossmember. Then make a final check of the upper part of the tank for anything else that still needs to be disconnected. When you have verified that EVERYTHING is disconnected, slowly lower the fuel tank. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points:If you're replacing the fuel tank, remove all components from the old fuel tank and install them on the new tank.Tighten the fuel tank strap bolts securely.
