- A:To replace the thermostat, disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. Follow the upper radiator hose to locate the thermostat housing and detach the hose from the fitting. If necessary, cut off the old hose and install a new one. Remove the housing cover and the old thermostat, making sure to note its orientation. Clean the housing and cover of any old gasket material and apply a thin layer of RTV sealant to both sides of the new gasket. Install the new thermostat and gasket, then reattach the cover and hose. Refill the cooling system and start the engine to check for leaks and proper thermostat operation.Posted by MoparPartsGiant Specialist
