Q:
How to disconnect and replace the combination valve in a brake system? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the wire connector from the pressure differential switch by squeezing the side lock releases and pulling up. Use pliers if necessary. Connect the switch wire to a good ground using a jumper wire. Turn the ignition key to the On position and check if the warning light in the instrument panel lights up. If not, replace the bulb or repair the electrical circuit. Once the warning light functions correctly, turn off the ignition switch, disconnect the jumper wire, and reconnect the wire to the switch terminal. Ensure the master cylinder reservoirs are full and attach a bleeder hose to one of the rear wheel bleeder valves, immersing the other end in a container with clean brake fluid. Turn the ignition switch on and open the bleeder valve while a helper applies moderate pressure to the brake pedal. The brake warning light on the instrument panel should light up. Close the bleeder valve before the helper releases the brake pedal. Reapply the brake pedal with moderate to heavy pressure and the brake warning light should go out. Repeat the process for the front brake bleeder valves. Turn off the ignition switch. If the warning light did not come on during the previous steps but lights up when a jumper is connected to ground, the warning light switch portion of the brake proportioning valve is defective and the brake proportioning valve needs to be replaced. To replace the brake proportioning valve, place a container under it, protect painted surfaces, disconnect the hydraulic lines using a flare-nut wrench, disconnect the electrical connector from the pressure differential switch, remove the bolt holding the valve to the mounting bracket, and remove the valve from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Finally, bleed the entire brake system.
