The CMP sensor is located at the rear of the valve covers and bolted through to the cylinder head.

Disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). For the 3.6L V6 engine, there are two CMP sensors located at the rear of the valve covers and bolted through to the cylinder head. Remove the engine cover, if equipped. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor(s) and remove the sensor(s) mounting bolt. Remove the sensor(s) from the valve cover and inspect the O-ring. For the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engines, the CMP sensor is located on the top of the front end of the right cylinder head. Raise the front end of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor and remove the sensor mounting bolt. Inspect the CMP sensor O-ring for cracks, tears, and other deterioration. For HEMI engines, the CMP sensor is located on the upper right side of the timing chain cover, under the alternator. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor and remove the sensor mounting bolt. Remove the old CMP sensor O-ring and inspect it for cracks, tears, and deterioration. For diesel engines, the CMP sensor is located on the left rear of the timing gear cover, below the injection pump. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor, remove the sensor mounting bolt, and pull the sensor out of the timing cover. Remove the CMP sensor O-ring and inspect it for cracks, tears, and deterioration. Clean out the CMP sensor mounting hole. Apply a small dab of clean engine oil on the CMP sensor O-ring, then install the sensor using a slight rocking motion. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.
