Q:
How to Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, start by partially draining the cooling system. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 2015 and earlier models with 3.6L V6, 3.7L V6, and 4.7L VB engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor and carefully unscrew it from the intake manifold. Wrap the threads of the ECT sensor with Teflon sealing tape before installing it. For 2016 and later 3.6L V6 engines, remove the air filter housing and disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor. Depress the locking tab on the bottom of the ECT sensor, rotate it counterclockwise, and pull it from the housing. Insert the ECT sensor into the housing, rotate it clockwise, and ensure the locking tab is against the stop. For Hemi engines, remove the drivebelt and unbolt the air conditioning compressor to access the ECT sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector and carefully unscrew the ECT sensor from the intake manifold. Wrap the threads of the ECT sensor with Teflon sealing tape before installing it. Finally, refill the cooling system.
