2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket, and what steps are involved in servicing the oil pump in 3.0L V6 engine on 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: To remove the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket, take off the oil pan and pick-up assemblies. Unbolt the power steering pump without disconnecting the hoses and remove the power steering pump bracket. Remove the oil pump-to-engine block bolts from the front of the engine, noting the correct locations for the different length bolts for reassembly. Use a block of wood and a hammer to break the oil pump loose, then pull it out from the engine block. Scrape off old gasket material and sealant from the oil pump and engine block mating surfaces, and clean them with lacquer thinner or acetone. Remove the screws holding the rear cover to the oil pump, using an impact driver if necessary. Clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage. Remove the oil pressure relief valve plug, washer, spring, and valve, checking the sliding surface and valve spring for damage; if either is damaged, replace them as a set. Check clearances with a feeler gauge and compare measurements; if any are excessive, replace the entire oil pump assembly. Pack the cavities of the oil pump with petroleum jelly to prime it, then assemble the oil pump and tighten the screws to the specified torque. Install the oil pressure relief valve, spring, and washer, tightening the plug to the specified torque. Apply a thin film of R1V sealant to the new oil pump gasket, and install the oil pump by aligning the flats on the crankshaft with those in the inner rotor, tightening all fasteners to the specified torque values.
