- Q: How to replace rear shock absorbers and coil springs on Chrysler 200?A:Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels and raise the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Remove the rear shock absorber/coil spring assembly. If servicing both shocks, mark the parts as right and left. Compress the coil spring with a spring compressor, following the tool manufacturer's instructions. Compress the spring until tension is removed from the upper bracket. Hold the damper shaft with a wrench and remove the damper shaft nut. Remove the shock through the bottom of the spring and inspect all parts for damage. Install the parts on the new shock in the correct order. Install the washer and damper shaft nut, tightening it while holding the damper shaft with a wrench. Slowly release tension from the spring by backing off the spring compressor. Ensure the spring has settled in the locator holes and the brackets/mounts are not twisted or off-center. Install the shock absorber/coil spring assembly. For coil spring models, raise the rear of the vehicle on jackstands and remove the wheels. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm. Use a floor jack to support the knuckle and raise it slightly. Remove the lower control arm-to-knuckle bolt and nut. Lower the control arm slowly to remove the spring. Installation is the reverse of removal.
