Chrysler 200 Engine Cooling Fan

The Chrysler 200 Engine Cooling Fan draws fresh air through the radiator for the coolant to drop to a safe temperature and protect the engine during slow traffic or idling stops. Located directly behind the grille, the Engine Cooling Fan and radiator fins work together to generate forced airflow in weak wind conditions. A reliable Engine Cooling Fan allows the coolant to cycle efficiently through the engine. Earlier iterations of the 200 applied belt-driven mechanical designs. However, every recent model of the Chrysler 200 uses an electric Engine Cooling Fan that activates only once the sensors detect rising heat for efficiency of power and fuel economy. The assembly combines a streamlined blade, compact motor, and shroud that seals to the radiator, directing air precisely where it is needed. Chrysler has always kept the dimensions tight for the 200 engine bay through the years while refining motor efficiency and blade shape. As soon as the coolant begins to heat up, the Engine Cooling Fan spins rapidly to disperse heat, so the sedan will not overheat and provides Chrysler reliability in the city and on the highway.

Chrysler 200 Engine Cooling Fan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Steps Should You Follow to Replace the Engine Cooling Fan on Chrysler 200?
    A:
Look at the underhood fuse/relay box fan relays for 2011 and later vehicles. If they work fine but the fan stays off as the engine heats up too much, there's something wrong with the cooling fan system. Examine all wiring and connections to the fan motor while making sure the relays do their job. When no clear problems show up, we may need to look at the ECT sensor or PCM to find the real cause. Get help from a dealer service crew or repair shop that can use special diagnosis tools to solve your cooling fan and circuit problems. Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable from its remote ground or the battery. Securely lift the vehicle's front end and place jackstands under it to support the weight. Apply the parking brake before beginning repairs. Open the cooling system, disconnect the cooling fan's electrical connection and pins holding the wiring harness, take out the bolts that hold the wiring loom in place on top of the radiator core support. First, loosen and slide back the clamp that holds the upper radiator hose on. Then, remove the hose from its connection on the radiator. Let out the oil dipstick tube to make room, then take off all the clips that hold the fan to the radiator itself. Also on later models, unscrew the shroud mounting bolts. Unscrew the cooling fan assembly vertically until it's free and lifts out of the engine bay. To install the fan, simply put the fan assembly into the side and bottom retaining clips. While you redo the connections, refill the cooling system.
