Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the transmission. Now would be a good time to check and replace the transmission front pump seal on automatic transmissions. Use paint or a center-punch to make alignment marks on the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft to ensure correct alignment during reinstallation. Remove the bolts that secure the flywheel/driveplate to the crankshaft; if the crankshaft turns, wedge a screwdriver into the ring gear teeth to keep it from turning. Pull straight back on the flywheel/driveplate to detach it from the crankshaft. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to align the matching paint marks. Use thread locking compound on the bolt threads and tighten them in several steps, in a criss-cross pattern, to the specified torque.
