To remove the leaf spring, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the rear of the vehicle. Support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails. Remove the wheel and support the rear axle with a floor jack placed under the axle tube. Remove the nuts, U-bolts, and spring plate that clamp the leaf spring to the axle. Then, remove the leaf spring shackle-to-frame bracket mounting fasteners at the rear and the leaf spring-to-frame mounting fasteners at the front. If necessary, the shackle can be removed from the leaf spring. To install the leaf spring, start by installing the rear shackle to the spring (if removed) but leave the fasteners finger tight. Position the spring on the axle tube, ensuring it is centered correctly. Line up the eye at the front of the spring with the mounting bracket and install the mounting fasteners, leaving them finger tight. Install the rear shackle to the frame and leave the fasteners finger tight. Install the U-bolts and spring plate, tightening the nuts to the specified torque. Install the wheel and lug nuts, then remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle. Finally, tighten the front spring fasteners and rear shackle fasteners to the specified torque with the vehicle sitting at normal ride height.
