When removing the cylinder heads, it is important to relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the battery. Next, take off the drive belt and drain the cooling system. Take out the PCV and EVAP system components as well as remove cowl. After that, remove intake manifold and exhaust manifolds from cylinder heads. Remove steering pump mounting bolts and move aside pump. Remove valve covers,
Rocker Arms, and push rods.Then slowly loosen head bolts in increments and remove them by hand.Meanwhile use a wooden block or strike a wood block with a hammer.Lift heads off engine by using a block of wood or by striking a wood block with a hammer.Afterwards, place heads on blocks of wood.When installing heads make sure that its mating surface is clean free from old gasket material and dirt.Clean surfaces with brake cleaner after scraping any old gasket material.Use a gasket scraper to scrape any old gasket material off these surfaces before applying brake cleaner on them.Inspect for damage here if necessary.Remember it is important to check thread in head bolt holes as well as cleaning bolt threads accurately.Make sure new gaskets are positioned correctly on dowels in the block.Heads should be carefully placed onto block without disturbing gaskets.Thread engine oil over head bolt threads then put bolts back into their original locations.If you are going to install new head bolts ensure you torque them right otherwise they will not tighten completely.Finally do this procedure but backwards.Add coolant; change oil including filter if installed; start engine to test run for proper operation and leaks.
