Jeep Cherokee A/C Switch
The A/C Switch for the Jeep Cherokee lets you wake up or silence the cooling system. The A/C Switch acts as a gateway for the commands from the dashboard to the climate hardware. Located in the dashboard next to the climate control module, this switch sends a signal of voltage to relays to engage the compressor and blower so that the temperature of the cabin changes only when asked. Switch types ranged from rocker or push buttons on early versions to rotary knobs and digital pads on later trims. However, all types of A/C Switch perform the same task. They break or complete the circuit that operates the A/C system. The compressor is activated in the same circuit on recent Jeep Cherokee generations with touchscreen climate panels. For models equipped with automatic temperature control, the A/C Switch is connected to a power module that controls blower speed. Based on sensor data, the module varies the speed of the fan after receipt of A/C Switch permission. A malfunctioning A/C Switch can either jam shut and run the compressor constantly, wasting fuel, or stay open and block all cooling. - Q: How to remove and install the air conditioning/heater control panel on Jeep Cherokee?A:Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Detach the instrument panel bezel. Remove the radio. Remove the four mounting screws from the A/C switch. Unplug the electrical connectors. Detach the vacuum connector by bending back the locking tab. Release the control cable locking tab with a screwdriver. Detach the ring on the end of the control cable from the arm on the bottom of the control panel. To install the control, reverse the removal procedure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery cable. Roll down the glove box from the instrument panel. Reach through the glove box opening in the instrument panel and unplug the two halves of the connector for the heater/air conditioning vacuum harness. Remove the center bezel from the instrument panel. Release the vacuum harness push-in retainer from the instrument panel. Remove the four retaining screws from the A/C switch. Pull out the A/C switch assembly and unplug the electrical connectors from the backside of the control assembly. Reach through the glove box opening and support the vacuum harness while removing the A/C switch assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal.
