Jeep Comanche Cylinder Head

The Jeep Comanche Cylinder Head acts as the ceiling of the combustion chamber, allowing new mixture in and the exhaust gases out for smooth, powerful operation. In the Cylinder Head, which is found on top of the cylinders, spark plugs and intake and exhaust valves are housed. A head gasket fitted tightly against the block and held in place by torque-to-yield bolts, which are stretched only once for equal pressure, seals it off. A proper seal prevents leaky compression, coolant, or oil. There was a time in history when Jeep offered the Comanche pickup truck in two styles, a rugged cast-iron Cylinder Head and a lighter aluminum Cylinder Head. Although cast iron does not warp, it is heavy, while the aluminum variant drops weight, has a quicker heat dispersion rate, and allows some Comanche engines to run higher compression without the threat of detonation. Thereby, it enhances the power-to-weight ratio of the Jeep platform. Any worn-out guides, burnt valves, and cracked surfaces inside any Cylinder Head, no matter what material, can steal horsepower, misfire cylinders, or mix fluids, so sound airflow and tight sealing are the common goals of every Jeep Comanche design.

Jeep Comanche Cylinder Head Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace a cylinder head in six cylinder engine on Jeep Comanche?
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Drain the coolant from the radiator and the engine block. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Detach the fuel pipe and vacuum advance hose. Remove the rocker arm cover. Remove the rocker arms and pushrods. Unbolt the power steering pump bracket and set the pump aside without disconnecting the hoses. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds. For air conditioned models, remove the bracket on the cylinder head that supports the idler pulley for the air conditioning compressor drivebelt. Loosen the alternator drivebelt and remove the alternator bracket to-cylinder head mounting bolt. Unplug the wiring and unbolt the air conditioning compressor without disconnecting the refrigerant hoses. Set the compressor aside and remove the upper two bolts from the bracket. For all models, label the spark plug wires and remove the distributor cap with the wires attached to it. Remove the spark plugs. Disconnect the wire from the temperature sending unit and the battery ground cable. Remove the ignition coil and bracket assembly. Remove the heater hose bracket. Remove the 14 cylinder head bolts and lift the head off the engine. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces, removing all traces of old gasket material. Stuff shop towels into each cylinder so scraped material doesn't fall in. Inspect the head for cracks and warpage. If you are replacing the cylinder head, be sure to transfer all fittings, etc. to the new head. Apply an even coat of Perfect Seal sealing compound to both sides of the replacement head gasket. Position the new head gasket on the engine block with the word TOP facing up. Install the cylinder head on the engine block. Coat the threads of bolt number 11 with Loctite 592 sealant and install the head bolts hand tight. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence, according to the specified torque for each step. Reinstall the remaining components in the reverse order of removal. Add coolant and run the engine, checking for proper operation and coolant and oil leaks.
