Periodically inspect the battery cables for damage, cracked or burned insulation, and corrosion. Check the cable-to-terminal connections for cracks, loose wire strands, and corrosion, and look for white, fluffy deposits under the insulation as a sign of cable corrosion. When removing the cables, always disconnect the negative battery terminal first to avoid accidental shorting. Trace each cable to its opposite end, remove the bolt securing the ground cable, and note the routing for correct installation. On 2010 and earlier models, open the cover on the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and the Integrated Power Module (IPM), and remove the nuts securing the positive cable to both. On 2011 and later models, remove the nut fastening the opposite end of the positive cable to the Power Distribution Center and disassemble interior components to remove the cable. If replacing the cables, ensure they are identical to the originals. Clean the solenoid or ground connection threads, apply a corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly, and attach the cables securely. Ensure the new cable reaches the battery post without stretching, and connect the positive cable first, followed by the negative cable.
