To remove the cargo floor covering and rear floor pan silencer covers, remove the side trim panes in the trunk for access to the shock absorber upper mounting fasteners. If there is a satellite receiver or factory amplifier, remove them from the floor pan silencer covers and set them aside. Next, remove the spare tire. Locate the shock upper nut access door next to the opening created when the silencer cover was removed. Remove the nuts in the trunk that hold the shock absorber to the vehicle body. If it's the first time removing the rear shocks, cut open the door by removing the two small tabs. This will allow access to the area where the upper shock nuts are located. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting nut and bolt, and remove the shock unit. It may be necessary to pry the lower
Control Arm down to make room for the shock to be removed. To install, grease the lower mount with white lithium grease to facilitate installation and prolong the life of the lower shock bushing. When installing, ensure that the side of the upper mount that protrudes more is facing towards the outside of the vehicle. Raise the rear suspension with a floor jack positioned under the outer end of the lower control arm to simulate normal ride height, then tighten the lower mounting bolt. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Finally, tighten the shock absorber upper mounting nuts and reinstall the trim panels in the trunk.
