- Q: How to disconnect and reconnect the steering wheel and airbag module on Jeep Wrangler?A:Remove the cable from negative terminal of the battery. For those models that do not have the airbag, you will need to remove the horn pad that is mounted on the steering wheel, and de-wire the horn switch by pulling the attach wires with your hands. Loosen the steering wheel retaining nut and scribe the position of the shaft in relation to the hub so that it can easily be put back and aligned. Remove the steerin g wheel by pulling with a puller by avoiding hammering on the shaft. To fit the wheel, the grooves of the steering wheel hub and shaft must be lined up, the nut was fitted to the shaft and tightened to the recommended torque. Fits the horn wire to the horn terminal and proceeds to fit the horn pad and the reconnection of the negative terminal of the battery. In models equipped with an airbag, if working in a 1995 model, open the driver side window and unfasten the negative battery terminal, then count at least two minutes before continuing. Remove the small cover at the top part of the steering wheel hub to disarm the airbag and turn clockwise until tight the arming screw. There should be fasteners that you disengage from the back part of the steering wheel, they consist of clips on the projections. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the airbag module located near the wheel and remove the module upward and safe it from the nearby objects. Remove the connectors from the airbag with attention made on releasing the CPA tabs before removing the main clips. Place the airbag module above the steering wheel and connect the electric connectors later then use screws or bolts to fix the module in place with the recommended tightness.
