- Q: How to remove and install Crankshaft Seal and Harmonic Balancer in hemi engine on Ram 3500?A:Take off the battery negative terminal cable. Remove the engine fan belt. Empty the coolant, remove the top radiator hose and extract the fan curtain. Unbolt the huge damper to crankshaft screw. Use a chain lock for protecting and immobilizing a large vibration damper during removal in case of damage. With a three-jaw puller, take out the vibration damper from the crankshaft gently without using a puller with jaws that grip on pulley's outer edge or letting it screw interfere with nose thread of crankshaft. Where cover is being left attached to engine block when seal is being removed, carefully remove seal with seal remover or big flat head screwdriver. Clean out groove and place new gasket lip inwardly; then drive home using a 2" diameter socket or plastic pipe as well as mallet until seated fully into block bore. Inspect condition of oil seal contact area on hub and renew hub if required for this purpose only. Re-installation includes applying oil lubricant onto sealing lips; push keyway at damper hub through Woodruff key on front end of crankshaft while re-mounting vibration absorber; use special application tool which pushes it onto shaft end; fit fixing bolt back by tightening to stated torque level afterwards do it in reverse order as described above putting things back together according to removal procedure but refill cooling system after that only.
