    Q:
What is the purpose of the brake light switch and how can brake light issues be troubleshooted on Jeep Patriot? Posted by Customer
    A:
The brake light switch near the brake pedal activates brake lights and deactivates cruise control. It should only be adjusted during installation. Troubleshoot brake light issues by checking the fuse, verifying the voltage to the switch, and testing switch terminals for continuity. If the lights don't work, inspect power and ground connections at the bulb sockets and wiring to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Professional help may be needed if the TIPM is involved. Check the switch, leads, sockets, and bulbs for the center high-mounted stop lamp.
