    Q:
Where is the EGR valve located and how can its proper operation be checked on Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, the location of the EGR valve is on the intake manifold near the carburetor or throttle body. The hose and pipe for the EGR valve must be checked for leaks and damage. Look at the stem beneath the valve while your engine idles at normal operating temperature and you should also increase its speed to about 2500 RPM. If this occurs, it means that the engine's speed changes, indicating that there is no problem with the EGR system.

    Q:
How to diagnose and maintain the EGR system,EGR Tube and EGR Valve on Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
    A:
Running the engine utilizing any component of the EGR system disconnected or defective may result in thorough engine damage by detonation. The EGR system allows for cut back of the exhaust gases into the intake manifold to decrease the combustion temperature and hence the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust. The EGR valve is vacuum controlled and the exhaust gas flow is controlled by it; many of these engines incorporate a back pressure transducer to adjust the vacuum signal in accord with the back pressure of the exhaust. On the later models there is a computer operated EGR solenoid which controls the vacuum to the EGR valve depending with the conditions of the engine. Previous models utilizes the Coolant Temperature Override valve and Thermal Vacuum Switch, for regulating vacuum complexity according to the coolant and the intake air temperature. This system has been reported to cause rough idle and stalling problems most of which are blamed on the changes in the exhaust system backpressure. In order to inspect the EGR valve, it must be operated at an idle of 1500 rpm; if it fails to do so then there may be a problem with vacuum supply or the EGR itself might be faulty. In EGR solenoid, one needs to be keen on the vacuum levels and look for blocks or leaks on the system. The backpressure transducer and the other components should be checked for proper working, any defective component should be replaced. When putting in new elements, insist on cleaning the mating surfaces and using new gaskets to increase chances of correct assembly.
