    Q:
How to adjust the Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve clearance in the four cylinder engine on Chrysler 200? Posted by Customer
    A:
Note that 2015 and later models do not require valve adjustment. Position the number 1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke. Remove the engine cover by pulling it up and off the ball studs. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the remote ground terminal. Blow out the recessed area around the spark plug openings with compressed air, if available, to remove any debris that might fall into the cylinders, then remove the spark plugs. Remove the valve cover. The lobes must be measured one set at a time; rotate the camshaft(s) until two lobes on any one cylinder are pointing straight up and measure the clearances of those valves with feeler gauges, ensuring a slight drag on the gauge indicates correct clearance. Rotate the camshaft(s) until all the lobes have been checked. Remove the camshaft(s) for the valve(s) that you intend to adjust. Remove and measure each lifter with a micrometer, recording the measurement for each lifter before moving on to the next. To calculate the correct thickness of a replacement lifter that will put the valve clearance within the specified range, use the formula S - C equals change, where S is the specified valve clearance and C is the measured valve clearance. Remove the lifter and read the size from the bottom, then reduce the lifter by subtracting the specified valve clearance from the measured valve clearance or as close as possible to the calculated size. Install the camshaft(s) and check the valve clearances again to verify they are now within the range. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to adjust the Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve clearance in the four cylinder engine on Dodge Avenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Align the first piston at the top of its travel when pressing the air into the engine. Lift off the engine cover by pulling, before taking out the ball stud. Unconnect the battery cable from where it connects to its ground terminal. Clean around the spark plug openings with compressed air, if available. Then pull out the spark plugs to keep any dirt and debris from falling into the engine. Remove the valve cover. Take measurements for the valve set by finding two lobes facing straight up on one cylinder while spinning the camshaft. We will take these measurements now to help us pick the right replacement lifters later. Keep checking camshaft lobes as you spin the camshaft. Take out the camshaft(s) for the valves you plan to tweak. Take a micrometer to measure each lifter's height and replace each one in its cylinder head until all lifters have been measured. Keep track of each lifter's measurement. To find the right replacement lifter that gets the valve gap where it should be, work out the difference by using the equation S - C = change. In this equation, S is the needed valve clearance number, and C is the measurement of the current gap. Pull out the lifter and note the size value from underneath it. Then reduce the lifter length by finding the needed valve clearance difference from your measurement reading or getting it as close as possible to your calculation results. Install the camshaft(s). Make sure you recheck the valve clearances and see if they stay in the accepted range. Later stages of installation work in the opposite direction as removal did.

    Q:
Should servicing the exhaust valve and intake valve, along with valve seats and valve guides, be performed by a professional on the Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Because of the nature of the job and the need for particular tools and equipment, the procedure of resizing the valves, valve seats, and valve guides better known as the valve job is better to be done by skilled personnel. A home mechanic may take off the head, cleanup and perform preliminary inspection and then reinstall the head for it to be taken to the dealer service department or automotive machine shop for the actual service. Carrying out the exercise enable one to know the condition of the head and valvetrain parts and new works and parts required when liaising with an automotive machine shop. It is the dealer service department or automotive machine shop which will be involved in valve and spring removal, with possible reconditioning or replacement, the checking and replacement of valve spring rotators, spring retainers, keepers and checking and replacement of valve seals too, reassembly of the valve components, and ensuring that the correct height of installed spring is attained. Also, the surface of cylinder head gasket will be machined if it is found to be warped. After valve job has been done in the head, the head will be in the 'as new' condition and it is necessary to clean it again before it is placed on the engine to remove metal fragments and abrasive particles that may be remaining in the head from the valve service or the head machining. Compressed air must be used for blowing out all oil holes as well as passages.
