    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install the antenna and antenna cable on the Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the antenna mast, unscrew it from the mounting base using an open-end wrench, and installation is the reverse of removal. There are two antenna cables: the antenna mast cable connects the antenna mast to the instrument panel antenna cable located underneath the right end of the instrument panel, which then connects to the radio. To access the antenna mast cable, carefully pry off the right-side panel, disconnect the coaxial connector from the instrument panel antenna cable, loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the right front wheel. Next, remove the splash shield from the right front wheel housing, detach the antenna mast cable clip using needle-nose pliers, and unscrew the cap nut from the antenna mounting base with an antenna wrench. Remove the antenna mounting base adapter from the top of the fender, push the antenna mounting base down through the mounting hole in the fender, and remove the grommet before pulling out the antenna cable. Installation follows the reverse order. For the instrument panel antenna cable, disconnect it from the antenna mast cable, remove the glove box, and disengage the old cable from the clips on the heater box. Remove the radio and disconnect the instrument panel antenna cable from the backside of the radio, then pull the old cable out through the radio mounting hole, with installation being the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How can the antenna be replaced equipped with a grid-type antenna and optional satellite radio on Jeep Liberty? Posted by Customer
    A:
Some later models come with an integral type grid type two piece antenna sited on the right rear quarter glass which must be replaced with the glass and therefore must be repaired in a glass works. Furthermore, optional satellite radio is offered after some later models using a small antenna placed on the rear aspect of the roof. To remove the antenna, unbend the cable from the negative terminal board and unbolt the mast off the fitting situated on the right side stern. Take out the cover, nut and the bezel fitting, go ahead and take the right kick panel, also disconnect the splice of the cable present in the kick panel section. Pull a string or a length of wire along the antenna cable; take out the top fender bolts, and the bolts near the top door hinge of the rear fender. Delicately unscrew the upper rear corner of the fender to develop accessibility of the antenna in addition to cutting the string and pulling out the antenna cable from the car. Screw a cable end to the new cable and using the string, pull the cable into the interior. The rest of the steps are done in a mirrored sequence to the removal steps. For models from 2008 or later or for ones that are equipped with satellite radio the antenna can be removed by lifting the headliner at the rear of the interior which may be difficult due to the delicate nature of the headliner and would therefore best be removed by a professional. Remember to unscrew the electrical cable from the bottom of the car antennas, and loosen the two locating tabs that hold the antennas on roof with the use of a small screw driver to remove the reverse of installation.
