How to Properly Disconnect Car Batteries on Chrysler 200? Posted by Customer
    A:
Some systems on the vehicle require battery power to be available at all times, either to maintain continuous operation or to maintain control unit memory. When the battery is disconnected, the power that maintains these systems is cut. It is a wise precaution to remove the key from the ignition and keep it with you before disconnecting the battery, especially on a vehicle with power door locks, to prevent the key from getting locked inside if the power door locks engage accidentally when the battery is reconnected. To avoid these problems, memory-savers can be used. These devices, typically plugged into the cigarette lighter and connected to a spare battery, provide sufficient current to maintain audio unit security codes, PCM memory, and power to always hot circuits such as the clock and radio memory circuits. The battery location and disconnection process differ between 2014 and earlier models and 2015 and later models. In 2014 and earlier models, the battery is mounted behind the lower front portion of the left front fender, and the remote positive and negative terminals are located in the engine compartment at the left strut tower. To disconnect the battery, loosen the cable end nut of the remote negative terminal, disconnect the cable from the remote ground terminal, attach the plastic insulator portion of the cable to the stud, and reinstall the nut. In 2015 and later models, the battery is located in the engine compartment, and the battery cables are accessible after opening the hood. To disconnect the battery, first disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) electrical connector from the negative cable (if equipped), then loosen the negative battery cable clamp nut, lift the cable off the negative terminal, and secure it aside to prevent accidental reconnection. It is important to note that whenever the battery is disconnected on 2015 and later models, the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) electrical connector must be disconnected prior to disconnecting the negative cable from the battery post.

    Q:
How to Remove and Replace Car Batteries and Their Trays on Chrysler 200? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect and isolate the remote battery cable. Loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the wheel. Remove the push pins and the inner-fender splash shield from the left front wheel well. Remove and isolate the negative battery cable before doing the same to the positive battery cable. Remove the battery retaining bracket nut, then remove the bracket and the battery from the wheel well. Be careful. 2015 and later models: Open the hood, disconnect the intelligent Battery Sensor (lBS) connector, then loosen the nut and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the nut and disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. Remove the battery cover by pulling it straight up. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Lift the battery up and out of the engine compartment. If you are replacing the battery, make sure you get one that's identical, with the same dimensions, amperage rating, cold cranking rating, etc. Installation is the reverse of removal. Always connect the positive cable first and the negative cable last. Battery tray: Remove the battery. Remove the four battery tray mounting bolts retaining the tray to the left front frame rail. Remove the battery tray through the wheel opening. Thoroughly wash the battery tray in clean water, then dry it with compressed air. Installation is the reverse of removal. 2015 and later models: Loosen the left-front wheel lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the left-front wheel and inner fender splash shield. Also remove the engine under cover. Remove the fuse box assembly mounting bolts and position it to the side. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) mounting bolts, then position it to the side. If necessary, also remove the PCM mount for better access. Detach any wiring harness clips from the battery tray, then remove the battery tray mounting bolts - accessed by working from the engine compartment, fenderwell, and from below the vehicle. Remove the battery tray, rotating it as necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal.
