It is necessary to periodically check the windshield wiper blade elements for cracks and deterioration. To gain access to the wiper blades, just turn on the ignition switch and cycle wipers to a position on the windshield where the work can be performed, then switch off the ignition. Lift away from glass wiper blade assembly. Press the release button and slide the wiper off the pin. Squeeze tabs with needle-nose pliers and slide the element out of the frame. Slide the new element into the frame until it locks.

Check windshield and rear window wiper blades regularly for cracks and wear. To access, turn on ignition, cycle wipers to a workable position, then turn off ignition. Lift the wiper assembly from the glass. Use a screwdriver to lift the release tab and remove the wiper assembly. Lift the tab and slide the wiper blade off the pin. Lift the lock tab on an end link, squeeze the link to remove it from the center bridge. Slide the link off the blade element and remove the element from the other link's claws. To remove the wiper element, lift both lock tabs, squeeze the end links together, and slide off. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Inspect the windshield wiper and blade assembly regularly for damage and loose parts. Clean blades with mild detergent to remove road film. Check and tighten bolts, nuts, and fasteners during inspection. Replace cracked or worn blades. To remove, pull assembly from glass. Models before 1996 use a pin-pivot system, later models use a plastic spring system. For pre-1996 models, use a screwdriver to lift the lever and slide off the blade. For later models, compress the plastic spring with a screwdriver and slide out the blade. Compare new and old assemblies before reinstalling. Wet windshield and check operation.

Compare new and old blade assemblies before reinstalling. Wet the windshield and check operation.
