    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the Clutch Slave Cylinder and Release Bearing assembly on the Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
Don't allow brake fluid to come into contact with paint as it will damage the finish. Removal: Disconnect the hydraulic quick-connect fitting from the clutch slave cylinder. Remove the transaxle. Remove the modular clutch assembly. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic line from the bleeder, then detach the bleeder from the clutch slave cylinder. Remove the bolts securing the clutch slave cylinder to the transaxle and slide the clutch slave cylinder assembly off the transaxle input shaft. Inspection: Hold the bearing by the outer race and rotate the inner race while applying pressure. If the bearing doesn't turn smoothly or if it's noisy, replace the clutch slave cylinder/bearing assembly with a new one. Wipe the bearing with a clean rag and inspect it for damage, wear, and cracks. Installation: Installation is the reverse of the removal steps with the following additions: Install the clutch slave cylinder mounting bolts and tighten them in three steps. Install the bleeder assembly and the hydraulic line. Using moly-base grease, lightly lubricate the face of the clutch bearing where it contacts the fingers of the pressure plate diaphragm spring. Lightly lubricate the spines of the transaxle input shaft. Install the modular clutch assembly. Install the transaxle. Connect the hydraulic line and check the brake fluid level in the reservoir, adding fluid if necessary, until the level is correct. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

    Q:
How to remove and install a Clutch Master Cylinder and Clutch Slave Cylinder on Jeep Patriot? Posted by Customer
    A:
Brake fluid will quickly damage the paint. Cover all body parts and be careful not to spill fluid during any of the following procedures. Wipe up any spilled fluid immediately and then flush the area thoroughly with water. Master cylinder Removal: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air filter housing. Remove the clip securing the hydraulic line to the master cylinder and pull the tube out of the master cylinder. Cap or cover the opening to prevent brake fluid from leaking out. Disconnect the supply line at the clutch master cylinder from the brake fluid reservoir and plug the line to prevent fluid loss. Working inside the vehicle, remove the Knee bolster, then disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal pin. Rotate the clutch master cylinder assembly 1/4 turn from its installed position and remove it from the engine compartment. Installation: Connect the supply hose from the brake master cylinder to the clutch master cylinder. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the proper fluid, then point the clutch master cylinder down (pushrod pointing down) for a few seconds to allow any trapped air to exit the master cylinder. Place the master cylinder pushrod through the firewall and carefully route the hydraulic line into position. Rotate the master cylinder 1/4 turn to lock it into place. Working inside the vehicle, connect the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal. Connect the hydraulic line to the clutch master cylinder. Install the retainers onto the line connectors and lock the lines in place. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the mounting fasteners securely. Wash off any spilled brake fluid with water. Clutch Slave Cylinder Note: These models utilize a clutch slave cylinder that is integral to the release bearing.
