When your 2005 or newer car needs a fuel filter change, it won't be during regular maintenance. The primary and intake filters have built-in lifetime protection and are only replaced when diagnostic testing reveals fuel tank contamination after cleaning. The fuel tank's main filter lives right at its front end. Start your work by allowing the fuel pressure to escape, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Look for a fuel pump access cover on your vehicle: you'll need to lower the tank if it's not there. Dismantle the rear cargo hold-down clamps by drilling out their rivets. After pushing the floor carpets forward, unscrew the access cover nuts. Before beginning work, remove the fuel lines around their connections, take off the module, and lift the rear end of the vehicle clear off the ground, using jackstands. Pull out the fuel line from the bottom of the filter, pull off the electrical ground, unscrew the filter bracket screw to take out the filter. Take the filter and fuel lines out and install them backward from the removal, screw on new cargo hold-down clamps after applying silicone sealant. You can find the inlet fuel filter hanging from the bottom section of the lower fuel pump piece in the fuel tank. Get rid of the fuel pump module first, then open the filter with the two release tabs, wash the pipe, and stick the fresh filter in the space, with removing being like putting back.
