Use a trim tool to separate the retaining ring from the bottom of the shift knob, then remove the shift knob from the shill lever assembly, and finally, installation is the reverse of removal.

For the two thousand and for the models and earlier start by releasing the locknut and then unscrewing the knob from the shift lever, remove the shift pattern plate from atop the knob and take out the retaining nut or simply unscrew the shift knob from the shift lever. If you own, 2007 model year car and above, you have to pull the knob towards the back, towards the rear of the car and then pull it up. In case the knob cannot be removed by the use of the hand, place a cloth over it and use the slide hammer equipped with a three jaw puller to remove the knob. This is done to fit the shift knob on the shift lever in the correct manner, and one is done when the knob cannot be pulled off from the lever.
