The fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor module consists of the fuel pump inlet strainer, the pump, an internal fuel filter, the fuel pressure regulator, and the Fuel Level Sensor, and it must be removed and installed as a complete assembly since individual components cannot be replaced, except for the lockring gasket. To begin, relieve the fuel system pressure, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and remove the fuel tank while ensuring the area around the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor is clean to prevent dirt from entering. Use a hammer and brass drift to tap the lockring counterclockwise, being cautious not to use a steel drift to avoid sparks that could ignite fuel vapors. For models from 2011 onward, note that there is a main fuel pump and an auxiliary fuel pump module, both serviced similarly. Carefully extract the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor from the tank, ensuring to protect the float and float arm during removal. Inspect the large rubber gasket for any damage and replace it if necessary. The fuel pump inlet filter, located at the bottom of the fuel pump module, should be inspected and cleaned with solvent and a toothbrush if dirty; if it cannot be cleaned, the entire assembly must be replaced. When reinstalling the module, ensure the electrical connector terminal faces forward and the fuel outlet pipe points toward the left side of the vehicle for models from 2010 and earlier, with installation following the reverse order of removal.
