    Q:
How to replace front brake pads on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace front brake pads on 2010 and earlier models (excluding SRTB), first unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap, then unbolt the wheel lugs, jack up the vehicle and set it on jackstands putting the blocks under the opposite wheels. Take the wheels off and inspect the brake disc; if machining is required then the disc has to be taken off to get at the pads. Pull the piston back into the bore by clamping the cylinder using a clamp so that the master cylinder fluid does not spill. Clean the brakes with the brake cleaner then remove the caliper mounting bolts and then remove the caliper but use wire to suspend so that there is no pressure on the brake hose. Take out the inner and outer pads, grease and replace anti- rattle clips and make sure that both the pads are at the right position before fixing the caliper. For 2011 and later models, before removing anything, make sure the key is out or the battery disconnected, clean the brake assembly and then take off the brake pad retainer clip to remove the caliper. Ref also note the arrangement of the pads for mounting and see that caliper bolts are clean for mounting. For SRTB models the procedure is roughly the same, but one has to pay attention to the pad pins and cross-spring during the removal and the installation process. For rear brake pads on 2010 and earlier models, follow the above procedure, then compress the piston by using C-clamp and then set aside the caliper without having to let the caliper hang from the hose. Take out the outer and inner pads, wash and grease the bushings and then put on new pads properly setting them and tightening the caliper bolts. After the completion of the job, the brake pedal should be pressed hard to make the pad sit on the disc, verify the brake fluid level and confirm that the brake functions correctly before putting it back to use.
