    Q:
How to remove and replace the oil pump in 2.7L V6 engine on Chrysler 300? Posted by Customer
    A:
The early model replacement oil pumps may suffer from collapsed oil pressure relief valve and spring, leading to oil pressure problems. These pumps do not have a threaded plug but an expansion plug that seals off the oil pressure relief valve and its spring within the pump. Do consult a dealer parts department or other qualified repairer of automobiles for the correct oil pump. First, remove the primary timing chain as well as crankshaft sprocket in order to pull out the oil pump. However, it should be ensured that marks on crankshaft sprocket match those located on housing of the pump before they are disengaged from one another. This would be followed by removal of both: oil pan along with an oil pick up tube on it. Then gently take away oil pump housing by prying forward on dowel pins until pump is clear of engine block at front of engine or supported through bolts attaching pump to engine block. Once removed, examine all parts for wear or damage to them; especially certain front coverings which could then be cleaned using solvents for purposes of removing any residual particles contaminating these components. In case sliding surface or even valve spring holding back an this valve are spoilt, these ought to be replaced otherwise intact items left alone. By use of feeler gauge together with micrometer / dial caliper ensure you verify clearance between different parts pertaining to respective oils pumps before crosschecking measurements against specified clearance values; when any clearance becomes too big then whole assembly should be changed out entirely that's if some gap is beyond tolerable extent concerning its constituent components. Ensure there is petroleum jelly packed into the pump first prior its installation whereby all fasteners must be tightened up according torques given while assembling this device once again though this time including such additional elements as valves springs and washers alongside caps just above valves themselves so that latter ones stay in place after reassembling entire unit afterwards making sure each rotor comes into line with one of the crankshafts flats and finally putting these screws back into block or tightening until all tightening torques have been met as outlined by manufacturer instructions. The rest of installation takes place opposite to removal.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install an oil pump in 3.5L V6 engine on Chrysler 300? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is necessary that one should not at all remove the relief valve for oil pressure, spring and plunger from oil pump. Replace the entire oil pump as a unit in case its pressure relief valve is damaged. REMOVAL: Remove timing belt and crankshaft sprocket. Take out the oil pan. Remove the pick-up tube of the oil pump. Then, pull off the block bolts for the oil-pump-to-block and take out the pump from there. INSPECTION: Unbolt back cover of oil pump housing. Remove inner and outer rotors from body of the oil pump observing their installed directions so that they can be rearranged correctly. In solvent clean all parts thoroughly carefully inspecting rotors, pump cover, and oil pump housing for nicks, scratches or burrs.Replacement is required if any part of it is broken.Measure warpage of an oil pump cover using feeler gauge. If it exceeds limit then you have to replace a turbine.Measure thickness and diameter of outer rotor. If either value is less than this value then change turbine can be done.Find thickness of an inner rotor. If measurement is less than this value then turbine can be replaced. Then put external rotor into housing right after examine clearance between housing and rotor's opposite side with your finger. If this gap exceeds maximum allowed clearances then it could be replaced.Turn on crankshaft until flats align with flats on rotor.Continue installation by placing gasket onto engine block mating surface followed by putting those flats in position where they face each other. The torque applied on these blocks should make sure that they are tight enough. The rest part consists in reversing what has been removed previously.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump in V8 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the oil pump, the cable should then be disconnected from the negative terminal on the battery, note on 2015 and later models with an IBS connector the IBS should be disconnected before the negative battery cable. Second, dump the cooling system, third, take off the timing chain cover and the oil pan. Subsequently, seize the bolt that connects the pick-up tube assembly, to drop it aside from the oil pump, in addition to the bolts that hold the oil pump to the engine block. For installation the pump is to be placed at the engine and the pump rotor should be parallel to the crankshaft drive and the oil pump mounting bolts are to be fitted and tightened. Slide in a new O-ring on to the oil pump pick-up tube and fasten it to the pump with the help of the bolt and tighten it. The remaining of the installation process is in the exact opposite order of uninstallation. At last, add the correct grade and amount of oil in the crankcase and replace the oil filter; check the level of the coolant and replenish if necessary; start the engine and examine its performance and efficiency in terms of oil pressure and existence of oil leaks.

    Q:
What precautions should be taken when handling the oil pressure relief valve and oil pump during inspection and installation in 3.5L V6 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Never disassemble the oil pressure relief valve spring and plunger from the oil pump; if the oil pressure relief valve is defective replace the complete oil pump assembly. First un-bolt and take-off the timing belt and the crankshaft sprocket, then the oil pan and the oil pump pick-up tube. Next, remove the bolts and its cover using a wrench, after that pull out the oil pump from the block. For inspection, unbolt the cover from the back of the oil pump housing and remove the inner and outer rotors and as a process make sure of the direction they are to be reinstalled. wash all parts in solvent and inspect the rotors, pump cover and housing for such damage as score, wear, pitting or denting; if any, replace the assembly. Check the oil pump cover for warpage with the help of straight edge and the feeler gauge; if found to be warped beyond the limit then replace the pump. The thickness and diameter of the outer rotor should be measured with a micrometer and, if the thickness is less than or the diameter is more than the specified limit, the pump should be replaced. Check the thickness of the inner rotor and if you find it is less than the prescribed limit replace the pump. Insert the outer rotor into the housing and then measure the clearance at the opposite side: if this clearance is higher than the maximum allowable, replace the pump. The inner rotor shall be put in place and the gap between the indentations of the outer and inner rotors taken; if this gap is larger than indicated the pump assembly shall be replaced and the inner rotor put in place with the mark uppermost. Gauge the side clearance with a straightedge against the faces of the pump housing and the rotors: if the measurement is more than the acceptable limit, change the pump. For installation, first, pour engine oil into the housing of the oil pump and install the pump cover and thereafter tighten the bolts up to the recommended torque value. The gasket must be placed on the mating surface of the engine block while the flats of the rotor must be engaged with the crankshaft before the oil pump housing is placed on the engine block. Last, add and torque the pump to block bolts and do the reverse to how they were removed to finally complete the installation.

    Q:
What precautions should be taken when handling the oil pressure relief valve and oil pump assembly in 5.7L V8 engine on Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
In this type of engine, the oil pressure relief valve cannot be taken out of the oil pump housing; if that is done, it is necessary to replace the oil pump assembly with a new one. It should be pointed out that on the Hemi engine the oil pump is available only in sets. First, remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery after that, drain the engines cooling system. Subsequently, the timing chain cover and the oil pan have to be pulled off. Next there is a bolt to be disconnected right from the pick-up tube assembly and can be put down from the path of oil pump, finally the mounting bolts of oil pump have to be pulled to separate the pump from the block of the engine. To fit, place the pump on the engine so that the rotor of the pump is in the proper relation the crankshaft drive, and tighten the bolts that hold the oil pump firmly into place while using the correct torque. A new O-ring is then placed on the stick of the oil pump pick-up tube; the stick is then joined to the pump and the bolt is tightened to the recommended measure of torque. The rest of the installation is performed on the reversal of the process of removal. Last, add the correct amount and type of engine oil to crankcase, change the oil filter, and add the correct type of fluid in the cooling system. Start the engine and ensure that there is sufficient oil pressure and also ensure that there is no oil leakage.

How to remove and inspect the oil pump assembly in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the timing chains and sprockets. Remove the oil pan, windage tray and pick-up tube. Remove the primary timing chain tensioner/oil pump bolts (Oil pump housing/primary timing chain tensioner retaining bolls), then remove the tensioner. Remove the remaining oil pump bolts, then gently pry the oil pump housing outward enough to clear the flats on the crankshaft and remove it from the engine. INSPECTION: Remove the screws holding the front cover on the oil pump housing. Clean all components with solvent, then inspect them for wear and damage. CAUTION: The oil pressure relief valve and spring are an integral part of the oil pump housing. Removal of the relief valve and spring from the oil pump housing will damage the oil pump and require replacement of the entire oil pump assembly. Check the clearance of the following oil pump components with a feeler gauge and a micrometer or dial caliper and compare the measurement to the clearance specifications. If any clearance is excessive, replace the entire oil pump assembly. Assemble the oil pump and tighten all fasteners to the torque. Note: Fill the oil pump rotor cavities with clean engine oil or light white grease to prime it. INSTALLATION: To install the pump, turn the flats in the rotor so they align with the flats on the crankshaft and push the oil pump back into position against the block. Position the primary timing chain tensioner over the oil pump and install the pump-to-block bolts. Tighten the oil pump/primary liming chain tensioner bolts to the torque. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
