    How to disconnect and install the Camshaft Position Sensor and target magnet on Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer

    Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector. Remove the CMP sensor retaining bolts and take out the CMP sensor. Next, remove the screw that attaches the target magnet to the camshaft and then take out the target magnet. When installing the target magnet, ensure that the locating dowels on the back of the magnet are aligned with the locating holes in the end of the camshaft, and tighten the target magnet retaining screw to the specified torque. The installation process is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten the CMP sensor retaining bolts to the specified torque.

    Inspect the CMP sensor O-ring for any damage and replace if necessary. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the sensor O-ring and use a rocking motion to install it into the sensor mounting bore. Ensure that the CMP sensor mounting flange is fully seated against the mounting surface. Inspect the old CMP sensor O-ring for damage and replace if needed. Apply engine oil to the O-ring and install it using a rocking motion. Make sure the CMP sensor mounting flange is fully seated. Check the O-ring for damage and apply engine oil before reinstalling the sensor. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal.
