- A:The ISS and OSS sensors, located on the left side of the transmission, can be replaced by following these steps. First, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, removing the transfer case skid plate if necessary. Identify the sensor you wish to replace, noting that the ISS and OSS sensors are identical in appearance. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor and place a drain pan underneath. Remove the sensor mounting bolt and pull out the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.
