    To remove and install the steering shaft, start by turning the front wheels to the straight ahead position. Then, mark the relationship of the upper and lower universal joints to the steering shaft and steering gear input shaft using white paint. Remove the upper and lower universal joint pinch bolts, and if necessary, loosen and reposition the steering gear. Next, pry the steering shaft out of the steering shaft universal joint with a large screwdriver and pull the shaft from the steering gearbox. To reinstall, align the marks and tighten the pinch bolts to the specified torque.
