Q:
How to Replace the Rear Shock Absorbers on a Dodge Ram 3500 and Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the rear shock absorbers on a vehicle, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails. Support the rear axle with a floor jack placed under the axle tube on the side being worked on. Remove the nut and bolt that attach the upper end of the shock absorber to the frame, and if necessary, apply penetrating oil to loosen any rust. Then, remove the nut and bolt that attach the lower end of the shock to the axle bracket, again using penetrating oil if needed. Extend the new shock absorber as far as possible and install new rubber grommets into the shock absorber eyes. Finally, install the new shock absorber by reversing the removal process and tightening the shock absorber mounting fasteners.

Q:
What should be done underneath the 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 during the removal process? Posted by Customer
A:
Underneath the vehicle, you should remove the two nuts that attach the lower end of the shock absorber to the lower control arm. This will allow you to pull the shock absorber out from below. Additionally, you should remove the lower grommet and retainer from the stem.

Q:
Could you describe the steps for removing the shock absorbe for the 2016 Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
A:
Certainly. For 4WD models with a solid front axle, start by loosening the driveaxle/hub nut and wheel lug nuts on 1500 4WD models. Then, raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Proceed by removing the wheel, followed by the three upper shock absorber mounting nuts and the lower shock absorber mounting nut and bolt. You'll also need to remove the brake caliper and disc. Additionally, detach the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle and upper control arm, detach the upper balljoint from the steering knuckle, and detach the stabilizer link from the lower control arm. Finally, remove the driveaxle/hub nut and pull the top of the knuckle out to remove the shock absorber/coil spring assembly.
