    To replace the mount, first remove the nuts attaching the insulator to the crossmember and the bolts attaching the insulator to the transmission. Then, raise the transmission or transfer case slightly with a jack and remove the insulator, noting which holes are used in the crossmember for proper alignment during installation. Finally, install the new mount by following the reverse of the removal procedure and be sure to tighten the nuts/bolts securely.

    To check the condition of the mount, insert a large screwdriver or pry bar into the space between the transfer case and the crossmember. Pry on the transmission/transfer case to check for excessive looseness by attempting to lift it slightly. The transmission/transfer case should not move away from the insulator much at all; if it does, replacement is necessary.
