All models are equipped with rubber bushings that are pressed into the spring eyes. These bushings should be inspected for cracks, damage, and looseness, which could indicate excessive wear. To check for wear, jack up the frame until the weight is removed from the spring bushing and pry the spring eye up-and-down to check for movement. If there is considerable movement, the bushing is worn and should be replaced. To replace the bushings, remove the spring and use threaded rods as tools to press them out. Cut an eight-inch length of 3/8-inch diameter threaded rod for small diameter bushings and an eleven-inch length of 1/2-inch diameter threaded rod for large diameter bushings. Insert the threaded rod through the bushing and place a socket over one end of the rod with the open end toward the bushing to serve as a driver. Install a flat washer and hex nut on the rod behind the socket, and on the opposite end of the threaded rod, install a piece of pipe to serve as a receiver. Secure the pipe section on the rod with a flat washer and nut. Tighten the nuts finger tight to align the components, ensuring that the socket is positioned in the spring eye and aligned with the bushing, and the pipe butts against the eye surface. Press the bushing out of the spring eye by tightening the nut at the socket end of the rod, then remove the bushing and tool from the spring eye. Install the new bushing on the threaded rod and assemble and align the tools as previously described. Line up the bushing with the spring eye and press the new bushing into position. Loosen the nuts and check to make sure the bushing is centered in the spring eye with the ends of the bushing flush with or slightly below the sides of the eye. If necessary, reinstall the tools and adjust the bushing position.
