It must be emphasized that any work performed close to any of the air bag system parts should be done with the air bag system off to prevent accidental firing of the air bag which may result in to the injury of the worker. Initiating the process, start with separating the shifter bezel ring and the bezel using a claw by prying it gently, followed by disassembling of the console back cover and pulling the electrical connector. On the cars 2011 and later model years, the side covers of the center console are popped off using a trim tool; this exposes several electrical connectors which has to be disconnected. After the removal of all connectors, eliminate the side mounting bolts if there is any, take out the cup holder mat and screw and then pull out the console from the car. On Durango models for the rear center console the following has to be done firstly, where the negative terminal is identified and the cable removed. To take out the two screw access covers at both sides of the rear console, use a trim tool as well as the mounting screws. Raise rear of the console to remove the electrical connector of the rear console and finally take the rear console off. Installation is in fact the reverse to removal when it comes to front as well as rear consoles.
