    Q:
How to drain and replace transmission fluid and Automatic Transmission Filter in a Chrysler 300? Posted by Customer
    A:
At specified time intervals, drain and replace the transmission fluid after the vehicle has completely cooled down. Before starting, purchase the recommended transmission fluid and a new filter. Additionally, gather tools such as jack stands, a drain pan, newspapers, and clean rags. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. Place a drain pan and remove the front and side transmission pan mounting bolts. Loosen the rear pan bolts and carefully pry the transmission pan loose with a screwdriver to allow the fluid to drain. Remove the remaining bolts, pan, and gasket, and clean the gasket surface of the transmission. Drain the fluid from the pan, clean it with solvent, and dry it with compressed air. Remove the filter and seal, then install a new filter seal and the new filter. Ensure the gasket surface on the transmission pan is clean. Install a new gasket if working on a NAG1 transmission, or clean the pan and transmission surfaces with lacquer thinner and apply ATF-resistant RTV sealant if working on a 42LE transmission. Bolt the pan in place and tighten the bolts gradually until the final torque figure is reached. Lower the vehicle and add the specified amount of automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. Check for leaks during the first few trips. To check the fluid level, start the engine with the parking brake set and move the shift lever through all gear ranges, ending in Neutral. Wait for at least 2 minutes. With the transmission at normal operating temperature, insert the dipstick into the filler tube and note the fluid level. Use a scan tool to check the temperature of the fluid and determine the correct fluid level using the temperature and the height of the fluid on the dipstick. If additional fluid is required, add it directly into the tube using a funnel and check the level until it's correct. Finally, install the dipstick tube cap.

    Q:
What Are the Best Practices for Maintaining Your Automatic Transmission Filter on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, periodically, it's necessary to perform transmission fluid maintenance. Acquire the required transmission fluid and a new filter. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. For 42RLE and NAG1 transmissions, remove the front and side transmission pan mounting bolts with a drain pan underneath, and loosen the rear pan bolts. Also, carefully pry the transmission pan loose to allow the fluid to drain. Remove the remaining bolts, pan, and gasket, cleaning the transmission's gasket surface thoroughly. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent, and remove the filter and seal. Install a new filter seal, then the new filter, and ensure the gasket surface on the pan is clean. Install a new gasket for NAG1 transmissions, apply ATF-resistant RTV sealant for 42LE transmissions, and tighten the pan bolts in sequence. 42RLE and NAG1 transmissions require a dipstick and a scan tool to read the fluid temperature.

    Q:
How to drain and replace transmission fluid and Automatic Transmission Filter at specified time intervals on Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
    A:
At the specified time intervals, the transmission fluid should be drained and replaced. Since the fluid will remain hot long after driving, perform this procedure only after the engine has cooled down completely. Before beginning work, purchase the specified transmission fluid and a new filter. Other tools necessary for this job include jack stands to support the vehicle in a raised position, a drain pan capable of holding at least eight pints, newspapers and clean rags. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. With a drain pan in place, remove the front and side pan mounting bolts. Note: 2007 through 2011 models have one bolt that is coated with adhesive sealant. Loosen the rear pan bolts approximately one turn. If the pan does not loosen and fluid does not begin to drain, carefully pry the transmission pan loose with a putty knife. Remove the remaining bolts, pan and gasket. Carefully clean the gasket surface of the transmission to remove all traces of the old gasket and sealant. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent and dry it with compressed air. Remove the filter from the transmission valve body. With the vehicle raised and the pan off, this is a good time to adjust the transmission bands. Install a new filter and 0-ring. Make sure the gasket surface on the transmission pan is clean, then install a new gasket. Put the pan in place against the transmission and, working around the pan, tighten each bolt a little at a time until the final torque figure is reached. On 2007 through 2011 models, clean the adhesive-coated bolt and apply new adhesive sealant. Lower the vehicle and add the specified amount of automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. With the transmission in Park and the parking brake set, run the engine at a fast idle, but don't race it. Move the gear selector through each range and back to Neutral. Check the fluid level. Check under the vehicle for leaks during the first few trips.
