    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
What procedures should be followed for fuse maintenance and troubleshooting on Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Protection of the electrical circuits in the vehicle is done by fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links whereby the fuse blocks are located at the left end of the instrument panel and in the engine compartment. The interior fuse box is located at the left end of the instrument panel under a cover, whereas the main engine compartment fuse/relay block is located behind the air filter housing and can only be accessed when the cover of the air filter housing is removed. These fuses are individual to each circuit and the different circuits are the labelled on the cover of the fuse panel. Miniature fuses with blade terminal design allow simple application of force with fingertips in removal and replacement of the components. In a situation when an electrical component is dysfunctional, the fuse has to be checked; using a test light to confirm that there is power to the exposed terminal ends is recommended; if there is power to the one end but none to the other, then the fuse is blown and this is evidenced by the fact that the element between the terminals melts when a fuse is blown. Blown fuses that are to be replaced with another should be replaced with fuses of the correct type since the different appearances of fuses of different rating may physically be swapped But only correct rating should be used to guarantee adequate protection of each electrical circuit or the amperage value of which is molded in the body of the fuses. If a replacement fuse continues to go bad as soon as it is installed, then it should not be reached for again until the probable cause for the fuse going bad-and this is normally a short circuit caused by either a damaged or rigorously worn wire-is dealt with. In turn, some circuits are protected by fusible links, which are used in circuits not protected by or that have large current; cartridge-type fusible links are located in the engine compartment fusible link box and resemble large fuses and can be easily replaced by disconnecting the battery negative terminal.

    Q:
What are the methods and precautions for checking and replacing fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links in electrical systems on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links, of which the fuse blocks are located at the left of the instrument panel and in the engine compartment. They are individualized to a circuit, and the circuits are labeled on the cover of the fuse panel. Miniature fuses with blade terminal are utilized; the fuses have a very small and can be easily replaced; if an electrical part has a problem then looking at the fuse should be done. A test light can be used to inspect power on the exposed terminal tips of each fuse by touching each terminal of the fuse as this will make a fuse go 'blown' if power is present at one terminal of the fuse but not the other; the element between the terminals of a 'blown' fuse will have melted. Blown fuses should be replaced with the correct type cross they can be physically swapped with other fuses despite the same size and shape although this is not advised due to the protection required by each circuit. If a replacement fuse is weakened and it goes off as soon as it is replaced, then the actual problem-most often, a short circuit due to a damaged or worn wire-should be fixed before attempting the replacement again. Other circuits are protected by fusible links, which can be used in a circuit that is not usually fused or in circuits with high current, with the cartridge type fusible links located in the engine compartment fusible link box and similar to a large fuse; these can be replaced by unplugging and inserting the link of the same amperage with the negative battery cable or remote ground terminal disconnected.

    Q:
How are the electrical circuits of safeguarded and what should be done in the event of a blown fuse on Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle have some protection from fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links, of which the fuse block can be found under the instrument panel on the left-side of the dashboard. The later models also have the power distribution center in the engine bay which is simply the fuses and relays. The above fuse is designed to protect various circuits and these are usually specified on the fuse panel. Compact fuses with a blade terminal design allow the user to easily twist with the fingertips to pop out the fuse and insert a new one. In cases when an electrical component stopped working, one need to check the fuse as it can give an instant result being a transparent plastic case with the element visible for inspection. In a case more continuity test is required it can be checked up through the exposed parts of the blade terminals in the fuse body. When fuses are being replaced, it is recommended that only the correct type be used as fuses of different rating appear physically similar though only those with the correct rating guarantee enough protection for a given electrical circuit. The amperage value is made to stand out against the plastic of the fuse body. If the fuse blows and a new one is put in place and it blows as soon as it is energized, it should NOT be replaced again until the problem leading to the use of a new fuse has been ascertained as being as a result of a short circuit due to badly connected or old wiring.

    Q:
How are the electrical circuits of safeguarded, and what should be done when a fuse blows on Jeep Liberty? Posted by Customer
    A:
Any electricity passing through the vehicle is protected by fuses and circuit breakers; the main fues panel can be found at the extreme left side of the instrument panel and the fuse and relay block known as the power distribution center is located on the extreme left side of the engine compartment. Each fuse is meant to protect a given circuit which is normally labelled on the fuse panel. Different types of fuses for use include the mini and the maxi fuses and while the maxi fuses are big enough to be handled by hand the mini fuses require the use of pliers or a small hand plastic fuse puller. When an electrical component is bad, the first thing to try is the fuse that controls that particular component and this can be done by using a test light to check if there is power at the end of the exposed terminal tips; if there is power at one end but not the other you know that the fuse is blown and this can also be physically checked by looking at the element between the terminals to see if it is blown. One should not use a substitute fuse because fuses of different ratings may be dimensionally interchangeable, while only the correct replacement fuses should be utilized to provide sufficient protection to electrical circuits, and the amperage is usually stamped on the outer surface of the fuse body. Should a replacement fuse blow out as soon as it is replaced, it should not be replaced again until the cause of the failure is ascertained, and may commonly be a short circuit caused by a broken or degraded conductor.

    Q:
How are the electrical circuits of the protected, and How to check and replace fuses on Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are safeguarded by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links, with the fuse block located in various positions depending on the model year, 1987 thru 1995 it is located under the dash on the left side of the instrument panel, 1997 thru 2006 is located behind the glove box and 2007 and up it is located in the right side of the engine compartment next to the battery where it is called the Totally Integrated Power Module TIPM and has solid state circuit replacing some of the relays. Further, year 2006 and below models are equipped with a Power Distribution Center (PDC) located in the engine compartment. These can range from small mini fuses with a blade terminal design for fingertip removal and replacement and they are usually placed in the fuse box according to a layout on the cover that shows them to be connected to specific circuits. When a particular electrical component does not work, it is wise to check the fuse, use a test light to check for presence of power on the exposed terminal tips; if power is present at one end but not the other end, it means that the fuse is blown, although this is easily determined by observing whether the element between the terminals is melted. Blown fuses should be replaced with fuses of the same type since there are different fuses with different amperage rates that is interchangeable but should not be used unless the correct amperage that is molded into the body of the fuse is used for each circuit. This is especially so where a replacement fuse blows as soon as it is installed and should not be replaced again until the root cause such as short circuiting caused by a broken or worn wire has been fixed.
