Q:
How do you replace the right fuel level sensor, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter module for the 2010 Dodge Charger? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the module and detach the fuel level sensor. Cut the wire ties and disconnect the ground wires. Remove the fuel level sensor. If you're only replacing the fuel pressure regulator, you're done. To remove the regulator from the fuel filter module, pull out the retaining clip. Check the condition of the regulator's O-rings. If you're replacing the fuel filter module, remove the ground ring and install it correctly in the new module. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.

Q:
How to Remove and Install the Fuel Pump/Fuel Level Sensor and the Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Regulator? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel pump/fuel level sensor module is located in the left compartment of the fuel tank. This module includes the fuel pump inlet strainer, the pump and a fuel level sensor. This covers the removal and installation of the complete module, which is removed as a complete assembly. You can replace any of these components separately. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the fuel tank to under 5/8-full with a hose routed through the fuel filler neck hose. Use a hard nylon tube with a 30-degree cut on the end to push open the check valve in the fuel filler neck. Remove the rear seat cushion. Pull back the foam pad covering the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module or the pad covering the fuel filter/fuel level sensor module (Peel back this foam pad to gain access to the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module.). Pull off the plastic access cover. The wiring harness between the grommet in the access cover and the electrical connector for the fuel pump and fuel level sensor is short, so be careful. Disconnect the electrical connector from the terminal on top of the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module mounting flange (then depress this release tab and disconnect the electrical connector) and place the harness safely out of the way. To prevent dirt from entering the fuel tank, clean the area surrounding the mounting flange for the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module. Using a hammer and a brass drift, tap on the lock-ring to turn it counterclockwise (To loosen the lock-ring, tap it counterclockwise with a hammer and a brass drift (using a steel drift can be dangerous because it might cause a spark)). When the lock-ring is loose, unscrew it. Before removing the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module, note the square tab on the edge of the mounting flange, which faces forward. The flange must be oriented just like this when you install the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module. Lift up the mounting flange for the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module and disconnect the two electrical connectors for the fuel level sensors and the fuel pump. If the lower half of the module (the fuel pump part) is still submerged in gasoline, drain the rest of the fuel from the left fuel tank. Lift up the fuel pump module far enough to insert a siphon hose into the tank and siphon out as much gas as possible. Disconnect the fuel supply line fitting from the outlet pipe on top of the fuel pump. Disconnect the two return lines from the fuel pump module (To disconnect the fuel return lines from the fuel pump module, simply lift them up and pop them loose from these retaining tangs). To drain the residual fuel from the reservoir inside the fuel pump module, reach through the opening and tilt the fuel pump module on its side to allow the fuel to drain out the top of the module. Carefully remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module from the fuel tank. Tilt the pump/sensor module as necessary to protect the fuel level sensor float arm from damage. If you want to replace the fuel pump module or the fuel level sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. FUEL FILTER/FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR MODULE Note: The fuel filter/fuel level sensor module is located in the right compartment of the fuel tank. This module includes the fuel filter, the fuel pressure regulator and a fuel level sensor. This covers the removal and installation of the complete module, which is removed as a complete assembly. You can replace either of these two components separately. Remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module from the left fuel tank compartment. Pull off the plastic access cover (To access the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor module, remove this plastic access cover). Disconnect the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting (To disconnect the quick-connect fitting for the fuel supply line, squeeze these two tabs with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull off the fitting). To prevent dirt from entering the fuel tank, clean the area surrounding the mounting flange for the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor module. Using a hammer and a brass drift, tap on the lock-ring to turn it counterclockwise. When the lock-ring is loose, unscrew it. Before removing the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor module, note the square tab on the circumference of the mounting flange, which faces forward. The flange must be oriented just like this when you install the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor module. Lift up the mounting flange for the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor module and carefully remove the-module (Carefully lift the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator/fuel level sensor out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to snap the fuel return lines or the electrical wiring harnesses). The electrical harness and fuel return lines, which you have already disconnected from the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module, are permanently attached to the module that you're removing, so make sure that they don't get caught on anything. Installation is the reverse of removal.
