Q:
How to Replace the Brake Pads on My Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer
A:
Do not depress the brake pedal with the caliper removed. Note that some 2003 and later vehicles may have an optional performance brake system, identifiable by the "Turbo" mark on each caliper. When ordering replacement parts, specify the correct brake system. Begin by removing the cap from the brake fluid reservoir and draining about two-thirds of the fluid. Clean the caliper and surrounding area with brake system cleaner. Use a C-clamp to push the piston back into its bore, being careful not to let the brake fluid overflow. To replace the brake pads, follow the specified order for either the front or rear brakes. For the front brakes, remove the caliper, inner pad, outer pad, and anti-rattle clips, then lubricate the guide pins before installing the new pads and caliper. Inspect the caliper, brake disc, and hoses, and replace if necessary. Repeat the procedure on the opposite wheel, then install the wheels, lower the vehicle, and add the specified brake fluid to the reservoir. Pump the brake pedal a few times, check the brake fluid level, and test the brakes before normal use.
