    Q:
How to remove and reinstall an oil pan in four cylinder engine on Chrysler 200? Posted by Customer
    A:
The negative battery cable is usually connected at the remote ground terminal or battery; therefore, disconnect it before proceeding to the removal of the oil pan. Lift the car and sustain it on jack-stands and next remove the oil from the engine. Take out the drivebelt splash shield, and next is the air conditioning compressor which should be kept aside and then follows the removal of the compressor bracket. Second, unscrew and unscrew the bolts and nuts that are secured on the oil pan and then ease off the oil pan from the block using a putty knife or any gasket scraper while avoiding to mar off the sealing surfaces. Drain the oil pan and wash the sealing areas to remove all the residues of the previous gasket then inspect the oil pan for warpage, twist or bend as the case maybe and rectify it by replacement or straightening. Clean the gasket surfaces with a rag which has been dips in brake system cleaner. For installation, apply a smooth 007-inch of RTV cylinder block to front cover joint at oil pan flange and another at the sealing surface of the pan. Put in the pan and bolts and snug them up, then work in a side to side motion starting from the middle out to torque the oil pan bolts to their given spec. The rest of the installation moves in an opposite sequence to the removal process. Lastly, replace crankcase with the right quantity of recommended oil type and take a road test and also check whether there is any leakage.

    Q:
How to remove and install oil pans in 3.6L V6 engine on Chrysler Sebring? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before the next steps, the negative battery cable must be disconnected, the front of the car has to be lifted on jackstands, parking brake has to engaged and the rear wheels blocked. Drop the oil and unbolt the lower splash shield screws. Remove the bolts and nuts for the lower oil pan, and to disassemble it from the upper oil pan, do not insert thin bars between them to avoid damaging the sealing face. If want force and necessary a soft-face hammer and a putty knife will work here putting force on the gasket seal. After that, unscrew the dipstick tube bracket bolt and then, pull the dipstick tube out. Take out the right side driveaxle, break the exhaust crossunder pipe flange nuts and bolts and take off the crossunder pipe. Remove the engine mount crossmember, the coolant tube fastener and the upper oil pan to transaxle mounting bolts. Disconnect torque converter access plate and rubber plugs, and then unbolt the upper pan to rear main seal housing bolts and don't miss the hidden oil pan to rear main seal bolts. Take out the upper oil pan bolts and then gently un-bolt the oil pan from the engine block, if necessary, use prying point or putty knife. For installation, clean the pan and engine block surfaces, inspection for distortion and flattening if required. Place the RTV sealant around the upper pan sealing surface and fit the upper pan and bolts before right tightening them in a circular sequence. Repeat the same process to the lower oil pan, do not forget to apply the sealant and tighten the bolts properly. Last, add oil, start the engine and inspect for any leakage when the engine is warm as it normally will be when driving.

    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pan in 2.7L V6 engine on Chrysler Sebring? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the oil pan, first of all, one has to detach the negative cable of battery from the remote ground terminal. Then, using the wrench, unscrew the oil dipstick and also, unscrew the oil dipstick tube mounting bolt, thereafter pulling out the tube from the oil pan. Lift the front of the vehicle and suppor it safely on jack stands, engage the parking brake and put chocks in front of the rear wheels. Should the provisions exist, pull the under-vehicle splash shield and its right lower counterpart, then emptied the engine oil and take off the filter. Detach the through-bolt at the front of the engine with the front mount and the one between the cross member and longitudinal cross member while at the back, take off the transaxle-to-oil pan support brace at the rear of the pan. There are some through bolts that secure the transaxle oil cooler lines and you should remove them to make way for removing the oil pan, so should you also remove the lower bolt of the air conditioning compressor and the bolt that attaches the alternator bracket to the oil pan. Very gently unbolt the pan and nuts and then take off the oil pan from the block; do not use any force and pry between the two to damage the sealing surfaces; pry on the casting flange at the front end of the pan. For instalation, wash the pan with solvent and having to removed old sealant and gasket deposits from the mating surfaces, having to ensure that bolt airways in block are free as well as checking the oil pan flange for damage. Put RTV sealant on the oil pan rail parting lines and place gasket on the block. Place the oil pan on the block and fit the nuts and bolts; tighten in a staggered sequence as indicated torque measures in three sequences. Steps for tightening the bolts should be also two stepped with the center bolts tightened to some specific torque, then the rest of the bolts to the same torque. Last, add oil into the engine, fit the filter, and start the engine and allow it to warm up to normal temperature then look for oil leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pan on Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before removing the oil pan it is necessary to interconnect the negative terminal of the battery and then jack up the vehicle and put it on the jackstands. Sump the engine oil, unbolt and remove the drivebelt splash shield along with the air cond. compressor, which should be supported off the rack by a wire or rope by this stage and remove the compressor bracket. Subsequently, the oil pan bolts have to be unscrewed and the oil pan has to be unbolted from the block, a putty knife or gasket scraper has to be used to pry the heads off without applying pressure in between the block and the pan as this may damage the sealing surface. Scrape off all the old gasket material from the oil pan and sealing surfaces and then wash the surfaces clean, and inspect the pan for any signs of distortion, warp or bend which must be corrected by replacing the pan. Clean the gasket surfaces with a cloth containing brake system cleaner. For installation, put RTV sealant in the joint of cylinder block to front cover at the oil pan flange in the 1/8 inch thickness and put a 1/8 inch width and 1/16 inch height of the RTV sealant on the sealing surface of the pan. Screw in the pan and bolts until they are just snug enough , do not over-tighten, and be sure to have the oil pan put on and tightened within 10 min after applying the RTV sealant. Overtighten the bolts on the oil pan to the torque recommended on the instructions and then you reverse the process. Top up the crankcase with the right quantity and type of oil, start the engine and check the region around the engine for oil, and finally for a road test to detect another round of leaks.
