    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump in 3.6L V6 engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before removing the oil pump the cable should be disconnected from the negative terminal of the battery. Lift the front of the car and securely place it on jack stands, turn on the parking brake and wedge the rear wheels. Suck out the engine oil, next, the fasteners and the lower splash shield should be removed from the vehicle. After that the lower and upper oil pans should be removed, the fastener for the oil pump pick-up tube and the tube should be removed and the O-ring should be thrown away. Remove the oil pump solenoid electrical connector from the engine, even for performing this procedure from the side of the block, the locking tab has to be pressed and the connector inserted into the block around the tensioner mounting bolt. I went further to try and remove the oil pump timing gear splash shield bolts and the splash shield. Extend the oil pump chain tensioner away from the chain so that a 3 mm Allen wrench can fit in to stop it. It is also important to put reference marks on the chain as well as on the oil pump gear by using the permanent marker or paint and when holding the oil pump gear to remove the T45 Torx mounting bolt and the gear. Press out the spring and using your finger, unscrew the tensioner from the oil pump, and then remove the dowel pin and the spring. Last of all, take off the oil pump mounting bolts, and follow this by taking off the pump. For inspection, please remember one key peculiarity: on 3.6L engines, the oil pump is not, in fact, serviceable , if it is faulty, the pump assembly must be changed. The oil pump should be bolted to the engine block and this is done with the dowels provided in the aligning positions with mounting bolts being tightened to the recommended torque. Thread the oil pump chain tensioner on the pivot; push this component against the tension of the spring and place a 3mm Allen key on it to clamp it in position. Centre the oil pump timing chain gear to the oil pump shaft then fit the T45 mounting bolt and tighten to the recommended torque while making sure that the gear is in the right orientation as when it was removed. Turn the oil pump solenoid for the right orientation and engage it through the hole available in the block. Place the timing gear splash shield and fasten the bolts to the prescribed tension. All the other components are installed in the reverse order as by which they were removed. Last but not the least, add the engine oil and replace the oil filter.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the oil pump in 5.7L,6.1L V8 and 6.4L V8 hemi engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
On this type of engine, the oil pressure relief valve cannot be unbolted from the oil pump housing; if you unbolt it, then the whole oil pump must be replaced by a new one. That is why, for the Hemi engine, only complete oil pumps are produced, which are installed directly in the engine. However, to remove the oil pump it is necessary to first disconnect the cable coming from the negative terminal of the battery and later drain the cooling system. Then, first, take off the timing chain cover and the oil pan. Subsequently, take out the bolt holding the pick-up tube assembly with the tube lowered away from the OIL pump The OIL pump with the mount bolts is then taken out of the engine block. To install, locate the pump on the engine smartly so that the rotor of the pump stands in parallel to the crankshaft drive and then fasten and tighten the oil pump mounting screws. Insert another O-ring to the oil pump pick-up tube and screw the tube to the pump and tighten the bolt. The rest of the installation is in contrast done in the reverse of the removal sequence. Last, add the type and amount of engine oil into the crankcase, replace the oil filter and coolant as required. Revolutionize the engine and make sure the oil pressure and whether there is any leakage or not.
