To begin, discharge the air conditioning system and disconnect the battery's negative terminal cable. For 2006 and earlier models, unplug the electrical connector from the pressure switch near the top of the A/C accumulator and disconnect the refrigerant line. Use a back-up wrench to prevent twisting the tubing and plug the open fittings. Loosen the mounting bracket bolts and remove the A/C accumulator. If installing a new A/C accumulator, remove the Schrader valve and pour the oil into a measuring cup. Add fresh refrigerant oil to the new A/C accumulator. For 2007 and later models, remove the grille and locate the A/C accumulator attached to the right side of the condenser. Remove the A/C accumulator-to-condenser mounting bolt and disconnect the A/C accumulator from the condenser. Discard the O-rings and plug the open fittings. Finally, install the new A/C accumulator and take the vehicle back to the shop for evacuation, charging, and leak testing of the air conditioning system.
