Q:
What is the role of the throttle position sensor (TPS), and how is its resistance tested for the 1987 Jeep Comanche? Posted by Customer
A:
The throttle position sensor (TPS) helps the ECM determine fuel delivery based on the angle of the throttle valve. Its resistance is tested using an ohmmeter. The resistance should be progressive as you move the throttle. An inconsistent resistance reading may indicate a faulty TPS.

Q:
What does the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor,Knock Sensor,MAP Sensor,Oxygen Sensor,Speed Sensor,Coolant Temperature Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor do on Jeep Comanche? Posted by Customer
A:
Information sensors provide the computer with data on the engine's operating conditions, allowing for adjustments to be made to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. The oxygen sensor, located in the exhaust manifold or down pipe, measures the oxygen content in the exhaust and sends a voltage signal to the computer to adjust the fuel/air mixture. The knock sensor detects engine detonation and sends impulses to the computer to retard ignition timing. The coolant temperature sensor monitors coolant temperature and provides input to the computer for fuel/air mixture and ignition timing adjustments. The manifold absolute pressure sensor reads pressure changes in the intake manifold to vary the air/fuel mixture. The manifold air temperature sensor measures air temperature in the intake manifold to adjust the fuel/air mixture. The throttle position sensor senses throttle movement and position to transmit an electrical signal to the computer. The crankshaft position sensor detects engine speed and crankshaft angle for ignition timing and fuel injector control. The vehicle speed sensor sends a voltage signal to the computer to determine vehicle speed.

Q:
How to check the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Jeep Cherokee? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system consists of a light or temperature gauge mounted in the instrument panel and a coolant temperature sending unit mounted on the engine. It is important to note that some vehicles may have multiple sending units, but only one is used for the indicator system. If the vehicle is equipped with an electric cooling fan, caution should be taken to stay clear of the fan blades as it can come on at any time. In the event of an overheating indication, it is recommended to first check the coolant level in the system and then ensure that the wiring between the light or gauge and the sending unit is secure and all fuses are intact. When the ignition switch is turned on and the starter motor is turning, the indicator light should be on to indicate an overheated engine. If the light is not on, it could be due to a burned-out bulb, a faulty ignition switch, or an open circuit. To test the circuit, the wire to the sending unit can be grounded while the ignition is on (engine not running for safety). If the gauge deflects full scale or the light comes on, it is necessary to replace the sending unit. Once the engine starts, the light should go out and remain out unless the engine overheats. If the light fails to go out, it could be due to a grounded wire, a defective sending unit, or a faulty ignition switch. It is also important to check the coolant to ensure it is the proper type, as plain water may have too low a boiling point to activate the sending unit. If the sending unit needs to be replaced, it can be unscrewed from the engine and the replacement can be installed using sealant on the threads. It is crucial to allow the engine to cool before removing the defective sending unit, and to be prepared for some coolant loss during the replacement process. Finally, it is recommended to check the coolant level after the replacement has been installed.

Q:
What could cause the light to not go out when the engine starts for the 1993 Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
A:
Failure of the light to go out when the engine starts may be caused by a grounded wire, defective sending unit, or faulty ignition switch.
